First contact Physiotherapist - Band 7

Spa Medical Centre, Melksham

19.5 Hours per Week - 12 months Fixed Term

We are looking for a competent, driven professional to join our First Contact Physiotherapy (FCP) team within Melksham and Bradford on Avon PCN, covering Spa Medical Centre and Giffords Surgery, in Melksham, Wiltshire. This is a 1-year fixed term contract to cover a secondment, however there is a possibility of this being extended or being made permanent. There is flexibility on the number of hours available.

First Contact Physiotherapists are qualified autonomous clinical practitioners who can assess, diagnose, and manage MSK problems and undifferentiated conditions, and where appropriate, discharge a person without a medical referral. You need to be a self-motivated person and keen to take part in continued professional development, data collection and service evaluation.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent assessment and clinical reasoning skills that this post will require, within a variety of musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and general health conditions. Good communication skills with a variety of people and conditions, and within demanding situations will be an asset. Experience of electronic patient records and telephone triage will be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a Primary Care MDT including GPs, Nurses, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Social Prescribers and more.

WHC has a well-established FCP service across Wiltshire (initially set up in 2018) with clinical leadership from experienced clinicians.

Support provided to complete the HEE Roadmap to Practice including protected CPD and supervision time, nominated Roadmap Supervisor, GP mentor and Orthopaedic Interface Service link clinician.

Peer support from a network of FCP clinicians.

Quarterly Clinical Forums with opportunities for shared learning, lectures from guest speakers, journal clubs and action learning sets.

Integration into the wider MSK pathway with strong links to locals MSK departments, the local Orthopaedic Interface Service and secondary care.

Funded training and development opportunities such as MSc level modules, external courses and Advanced Practice pathways.

Access to mentorship and career development opportunities to Band 8a level through completion of competencies.

Opportunities for involvement in service improvement projects, research and supervision.

Registered Allied Health Professional (AHP) (Active HCPC registration).
BSc or equivalent in Physiotherapy.
Educated to post graduate level or to have equivalent knowledge and experience;
Able to demonstrate in practice portfolio experience in core physiotherapy and MSK physiotherapy
MSc or equivalent evidence of advanced knowledge in musculoskeletal physiotherapy

Desirable

MCSP
MSc in related field
Non-medical prescribing
IRMER safety trained
Radiological interpretation course( or working towards)
Msc module in injection therapy or diploma in injection therapy

Experience

Essential

Experience of PDR/ mentoring/ supervision/ teaching/ training.
Experience of pathway development in the scope of MSK Physiotherapy.
Experience of multi-agency working Or working in a GP surgery
Evidence of knowledge and involvement in service improvements/redesign.
