Job summary
This role will support delivery of the NHS Wales Blood Health Plan (BHP) under the remit of the Blood Health National Oversight Group (BHNOG) and in collaboration with the Welsh Blood Service (WBS) and Hospital /Health Board (HB) Transfusion Teams across Wales. The role will provide a system leadership role by embedding patient blood management (PBM) principles into transfusion practice and be responsible for leading a team to drive best practice programmes and initiatives. This role provides advice to Health boards on matters relating to the prevention and treatment of anaemia and haemostatic disorders including the safe, effective and appropriate use of blood components.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
Support the Head of the National Blood Heath Team (BHT) in providing system leadership to embed PBM principles into transfusion practice and be responsible for leading a team to drive best practice programmes and initiatives. This will involve benchmarking against national and international services and horizon scanning to identify potential development opportunities while focusing on patient outcomes, reducing unwarranted variation in clinical practice and allocating resources across the system to maximise the value.
Provide leadership on Wales wide programmes to ensure they are implemented in line with national and international regulatory requirements.
Support the leadership and management of the BHT at the WBS by contributing to service strategies and operational plans to support service developments in conjunction with the Head of the BHT and other Heads of Departments.
Undertake work with internal and external stakeholders providing and receiving highly complex information in a changing, and competitive environment. This requires a high degree of tact and diplomacy to build and maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders identifying development opportunities to improve blood health initiatives aligned with the NHS BHP.
