Job summary
This is a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry (WBMDR) and work in the rapidly expanding field of cellular therapies. The WBMDR is part of the Welsh Blood Service based at a purpose-built facility in Pontyclun to the west of Cardiff. Each year we facilitate the provision of cellular therapy products to patients in the UK and overseas. Cellular therapies have become a curative measure for blood cancer and haematological disorders. Your essential role within the WBMDR will directly contribute to saving and improving peoples' lives by supporting the recruitment of donors to the WBMDR volunteer stem cell panel and coordinating the collection or import of life saving cell products.As a WBMDR Stem Cell Coordinator you will be:
o Responsible for communicating directly with potential stem cell donors, transplant centres and tissue typing laboratories to facilitate a cell product collection or the import of a cell product.
o Responsible for working within the Welsh Blood Service quality system to provide search results, test requests and coordinate donors for stem cell transplantation.
o Responsible for managing and coordinating multiple simultaneous transplant cases, from both national and international centres.

Main duties of the job
o The post holder will communicate directly with Welsh Blood Service blood donors who have consented to be stem cell donors (donor facing) and also with stem cell transplant centres and their tissue typing laboratories (patient facing). They will manage complex interactions with local and international Stem Cell Donor Registries and Transplant Physicians to ensure the safe collection and import of stem cells for patients at the University Hospital of Wales.
o The post holder will have a pivotal role in the final donor to transplant procedure; this involves complex interaction between co-ordinators, transplant centres, donor centres and tissue typing laboratories throughout the process to deliver a final donor.
o The post holder will work with a high level of autonomy and will work methodically and be able to prioritise their work according to the needs of the stem cell transplant priorities, managing multiple transplant cases, from multiple international centres.
o The post holder will play a key role in the implementation and maintenance of the Registry quality management system undertaking duties such as change control, audit and incident reporting in accordance with standards, regulatory and licensing requirements.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
