Job summary
The Welsh Blood Service has a vacancy for Head of the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry. The postholder will be accountable for the operation and service delivery of the Registry.
The WBMDR is an international service which is responsible for the import, export collection, co-ordination and organisation of time critical, patient specific stem cell units
Representing the WBMDR both nationally and internationally is an integral part of this role, ensuring the Registry maintains its reputation for excellence and evolves its services in line with clinical, scientific and technological demand.
Main duties of the job
An experienced leader and manager, responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team including coordination unit manager, senior healthcare scientists, senior nurses, stem cell donor coordinators and a donor engagement coordinator operating across a complex portfolio of areas; clinical donor management, stem cell apheresis collection stem cell processing laboratory, donor request management, product issuing, logistics and donor communications and engagement.
WBMDR Operational delivery occurs across two sites and the Head of WBMDR will be responsible for ensuring safety and quality of operations across sites in Talbot Green and at Velindre Cancer Centre (VCC), working closely with the WBS Quality Assurance Department. Whilst primarily based at Talbot Green regular visits to VCC will be required.
Responsible for maintaining and developing the supply of imported cell therapy products for patients in Wales. Including the evaluation of the quality and safety of all International suppliers for cell therapy products entering the UK for therapeutic application in Wales.
