Job summary
Public Health Wales invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Consultant in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (or Microbiology) within the North Wales Infection Service, delivered in partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an established, forward-thinking, and collaborative service within a fully integrated national infection network. The successful candidate will contribute to the provision and continual development of high-quality clinical and diagnostic infection services across North Wales.
For candidates with appropriate experience, the role of Clinical Lead for North Wales Infection Services may be available.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership in the diagnosis, prevention, and management of infection across both hospital and community settings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering a consultant-led microbiology and/or infectious diseases service, providing clinical advice and input into patient management.
- Supporting infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contributing to the clinical governance, audit, and service development agenda.
- Providing professional supervision and education for junior medical staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
- Collaborating with colleagues across Public Health Wales and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred services.
- Participating in the consultant on-call rota for microbiology (currently 1 in 5), remunerated in accordance with contractual provisions.
