Job summary

The Principal Public Health Practitioner will support the Health Inequalities cross organisational initiative, which aims to co-ordinate and embed the organisational approach to improving health equity. The role will support the Steering Group and Secretariat, leading on developing work and engagement plans. Main duties of the job

Lead the development of an organisational framework to support work on health inequalitiesLead on the socialisation of the health inequalities narrativeOversee and manage the Project ManagerOversee the Development of papers/ agendas for the Secretariat and Steering GroupLead the planning for workshopsDevelop work and engagement plans and monitor progressProvide regular progress reports to the Steering GroupManage relationships with internal and external stakeholdersProvide risk and issue management, reporting at both a programme and organisational level,Manage the programme budget and resourcesSupport the publication of resources

Experience

  • Experience of implementing health inequalities programmes
  • Experience in the application of evidence or theory in the development of public health programmes
  • Responsibility for leading aspects of development and delivery of health promotion programmes within a complex environment
  • Extensive experience of staff, stakeholder and public engagement and / or involvement
  • Leading, line managing and coaching staff and managing in a distributed geographical environment
  • Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Understanding of the public and third sector organisations and structures in Wales and the political environment in which it operates
  • Understanding of current policy relevant to public health
  • Knowledge relating to the determinants of health and the methods and approaches for addressing health inequalities at a population level
  • Understanding of roles of different agencies and how to mobilize a range of partners to take action to improve health
