Job summary

We are seeking an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with relevant experience in diagnostic microbiology, to join the Wales Centre for Mycobacteria (WCM), based at University Hospital Llandough.

Candidates will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities supported by scientific knowledge, well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to lead and support individual and team working. An understanding and experience of good laboratory practice and UKAS ISO15189 Quality Management System is required.

Experience/Interest in laboratory testing of mycobacteria and advanced knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake aspects of diagnostic laboratory work of patient samples for mycobacteria whilst supporting the Senior Biomedical Scientists and Lead Scientist in the WCM.

The successful candidate will participate in weekday and weekend working, which is both AFC and EWTD compliant. The contractual 37.5 hours will be worked over a five day working week (Monday to Friday, 08:45 am to 16:45 pm), with approximately 3.50 additional hours worked on Saturday mornings as part of a 1:4 or 1:5 rota.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post but not essential; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
