Pathology Subject Matter Expert/Academy Development Manager
1 year fixed-term contract/secondment due to funding
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivatedPathology Subject Matter Expert/Academy Development Manager to play a key leadership role within the National Pathology Programme, hosted by NHS Wales Executive. This position will lead in the development and implementation of an all-Wales online academy (on an existing platform) for all staff in Pathology services. This is aligned with the wider implementation of an academy model across Diagnostics services, as outlined in the Pathology Statement of Intent (2019), and the Diagnostic Recovery Transformation Plan for Wales (2023-2025).
The post holder will be based at River House, Ynys Bridge Court, Gwaelod-y-Garth, Cardiff CF15 9SS, however, staff are spending the majority of time working from home. The role will involve collaborating with stakeholders across Wales both via MS Teams and in person, which will involve travelling to meet the requirements of the post.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a representative of the pathology service throughout the life of the programme. This will include:
- Acting as a Pathology Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the development, testing and deployment of the new virtual pathology academy;
- Acting as the main liaison between the pathology service, the National Pathology Programme and the HEIW digital teams;
- Working alongside consultants, scientific and service managers across NHS Wales to deliver a co-ordinated and standardised pathology training and education resource;
- Leading on training and education change in the pathology services across Wales;
- Being responsible for gathering functional requirements as part of the development of the new virtual learning resource;
- Identifying and understanding the needs of stakeholders and providing sound judgement and diplomatic skills;
- Exercising autonomy within professional boundaries and being involved in setting priorities within the programme;
- Working with the pathology training leads to develop the design solution to meet the requirements and developing training content;
- Leading on testing of the new resources to meet accreditation and validation requirements as appropriate, undertaking testing as required;
- Leading on staff training for the new virtual academy, developing a staff training plan, developing and co-ordinating training materials and delivering training as required.
