The Wales Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme (WAAASP) was implemented on 1st May 2013 and aims to halve the abdominal aortic aneurysm related mortality in the eligible population by 2025, that is, 65-year-old men living in Wales.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Regional Nurse Coordinator to join WAAASP on a 12months fixed term basis or secondment arrangement.

This is a 37.5 hours per week post based on working 5 days Monday to Friday. The hours will be flexible within core hours of 8:00am - 6:00PM.

As a Regional Coordinator you will perform a key role in the delivery of WAAASP. Where invited men are offered a one-off abdominal aortic ultrasound scan in community screening premises. The ultrasound scans are performed by trained WAAASP screeners

The primary purpose of this role is to lead on the implementation of the WAAASP policies, standards, protocols and performance management of screeners.

The post holder will need to be an experienced nurse manager and will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Regional Senior Screener and providemanagement support and clinical supervision of the WAAASP screeners.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will liaise with the local administration team to ensure that clinics are appropriately allocated, invitation, call & recall and surveillance processes are followed. The post holder will also need to undergo training to become competent in screening and be expected to support new screening staff through their training programme once competent.

The post will be based in Matrix House, Swansea . There will be an expectation for the post holder to provide occasional clinical support for all regions across Wales, which can be done remotely. There may be an occasional requirement to work later or on a weekend but not routinely.

A good understanding of working with participants and participant confidentiality is essential for this role, alongside good organisational skills, knowledge of continuous improvement, experience of leading and managing staff and the ability to work accurately under pressure and on own initiative.
