This is a whole time substantive Consultant post. The successful applicant will work within the Infectious Disease service, with the remainder of their time (dependent on the particular qualifications of the candidate) either within the PHW microbiology or virology services to the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. There may be scope for some work within general medicine depending on the particular skills and/or preferences of the candidate. In this role, you will join the expanding clinical infection team delivering services to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, but may also include Princess of Wales Clinical Microbiology service and supporting the wider Public Health Wales network.
The post holder is managerially accountable to the Microbiology Professional Lead through the Clinical Lead of the Microbiology Laboratory, Cardiff.
Main duties of the job
Our infection team, provides local, regional and national services. We are strongly committed to collaboration, team working and personal development. Our service provides inpatient care to a dedicated ID ward, outpatient clinics across a range of infection subspecialties including HIV/TB/Hepatitis/ Inclusion health and OPAT. Additionally, we support the acute medical take through an infection "retrieval" service, and have an established research portfolio and dedicated infection clinical trials research team. There is a strong educational component to our work in both undergraduate and postgraduate medicine. We provide dedicated infection teaching on behalf of Cardiff University and have an established and thriving speciality training programme.

Essential
- A primary medical degree for example MBBS
- Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- Applicants that are UK trained, must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in infectious diseases, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
