It is an exciting time to be joining Public Health Wales Microbiology as we have dramatically expanded our workforce and the way Microbiology services are delivered. Public Health Wales Microbiology consists of a network of laboratories currently based at 7 sites across Wales.

You will join our COVID team working in the hot lab at The Grange Hospital working a 7-day rota. You will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of Microbiology in Wales following significant investment in new technology and staff. We aim to provide a responsive, modern, rapid diagnostic service for the people of Wales using state of the art equipment, Rotations at the royal Gwent hospital are also expected.

To demonstrate our commitment and dedication of our staff we offer automatic progression to Band 6 on the successful completion of their IBMS Specialist Diploma (Medical Microbiology /Virology) with 100% compliance of statutory and mandatory training and relevant competency documents.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited from candidates who are enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities supported by scientific knowledge. Candidates should possess well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working.

An understanding of good laboratory practice and ISO15189 quality management is desirable. The post holder will be expected to participate in shift working, including out of hours, weekends and bank holidays, to provide a 7-day service.Our team offers a varied, challenging and rewarding work environment, with the opportunity to be at the forefront of Microbiology in Wales.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
