Job summary
To complement our teams, Public Health Wales is seeking to appoint highly motivated, enthusiastic Public Health Specialists to the positions of 2 x substantive 'Consultant in Communicable Disease Control/Consultant in Health Protection(CCDC/CHP)' at 10 sessions/week or 1.0 WTE each and a 'Consultant in Environmental Public Health' on a 0.7 WTE substantive post in our Health Protection Division.
Main duties of the job
CCDCs/CHPs will provide specialist advice and input on a range of health protection issues including, leading on the response to outbreaks and incidents in the community/healthcare settings. To deliver objectives they will work closely with other consultant colleagues, nurse practitioners and specialist staff within the team and across partner agencies.
Environmental Public Health (EPH) is delivered jointly between PHW and the UK Health Security Agency.
The Consultant in EPH will work within a team that aims to protect and improve health in relation to environmental harms and benefits, as well as prevent harms from environmental hazards. It delivers reactive services, responding to a wide range of environmental events whilst working with multi-agency partners to protect the Welsh public. This post will provide specialist advice and input on the management of EPH issues, leading on the response to incidents as required. The EPH team works proactively to address the environmental determinants of health, including air quality, sustainable transport, contaminated land and water. You will provide evidence based advice and guidance to support policy and practice decision making at national and local levels.
All appointees will also be consultant members of the Health Protection Out of Hours Rota.
Candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register in Public Health, Microbiology or Infectious Diseases Medicine, or UKPHR for Public Health Specialists.
