Job summary

Do you have knowledge and experience of Picture Archiving and Communication systems in the health care setting? We have a fixed term opportunity for a Deputy PACS manager to support Breast Test Wales and the Abdominal AorticAneurysm Screening Programme.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about delivering a high quality service and an excellent team player, with a relevant degree and work-based experience in a related field.

The Deputy PACS Manager will provide essential support to the PACS Manager in overseeing the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) operations within Public Health Wales. Will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management of medical images and data, contributing to the effective delivery of imaging services in alignment with NHS guidelines and policies. In Addition, attend local and national meetings on behalf of the PACS manager.

Main duties of the job

Leadership

Provide leadership, guidance and expert advice on all new medical imaging system issues and related matters ensuring they are fully understood, implemented and exploited by all users

Develop a sound understanding of the organisations operational processes and procedures

Freedom to Act

Works autonomously and responsible for key area of work with significant service delivery responsibility.

Interprets national standards and implements as appropriate in relation to area of responsibility. Provide expert advice at an organisational level for area of work.

System Management

Assist the PACS Manager in the administration, configuration, and maintenance of the PACS systems, ensuring reliability and optimal performance.

Collaborate with the PACS Manager and third-party suppliers to monitor system performance and address technical issues as they arise.

Staffing

No direct reports but responsible for organisation wide training of PACS and IEP system users.

Involved in staff selection and participate in staff interviews for example selection of PACS Super-users.

Post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management and training of Super-users.

Communication

Work closely with the PACS Manager to facilitate effective communication and collaboration with radiologists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Communicate highly complex information and data to large audiences across the organisation.

Organise and liaise with managerial staff from all regions e.g. when working across boundaries, to ensure timely delivery of the screening programme on an all Wales basis.

Assist in liaising with external organizations, such as referral hospitals, for image exchange and consultations.

Support

Offer technical support to users on the effective utilisation of the PACS, Threepalm Software WorkstationOne, Schaef Dimex/VarioStorage and IEP.

Assess issues and escalate to suppliers where required.

Use remote tools to diagnose and resolve problems.

Training and Development

Create and deliver training to staff so that to ensure they are proficient in using the PACS, Three Palm Software WorkstationOne and IEP systems.

Assist in keeping the team updated on advancements in PACS technology and relevant NHS guidelines.

Data Management

Contribute to the oversight of medical image storage, archiving, and retrieval in adherence to NHS data security and privacy regulations.

Assist in maintaining accurate records of image data, verifying data integrity and troubleshooting data-related issues.

Create and document procedures for the use of PACS and associated systems.

Quality Assurance

Support the implementation and monitoring of quality control measures for image acquisition and storage.

Collaborate with the PACS Manager to conduct regular audits and resolve discrepancies or issues.

Compliance and Reporting

Assist in ensuring compliance with all NHS policies, procedures, and data security standard.

Generate reports on system usage, performance, and compliance as required.
