Improvement Cymru is the national quality improvement service for NHS Wales delivered by Public Health Wales. Our goal is to work with NHS Wales and its partner organisations to achieve sustainable, measurable improvements so that the services offered to patients are safer, more effective and timely.

This is an opportunity for a new role at Improvement Cymru, to be part of a team delivering the newly funded Maternity and Neonatal Safety Support Programme (MatNeoSSP Wales) for NHS Wales, which aims to improve the safety, experience and outcomes of maternal and neonatal care and provide support to enable teams to deliver a high quality healthcare experience for all pregnant people, babies and families across maternity and neonatal care settings in Wales.

To support MatNeoSSP across NHS Wales we are looking to appoint a part time National Programme Lead as follows:

  • 1 x Neonatal Programme Lead - 0.4 WTE

Main duties of the job

MatNeoSSP comprises two phases, (1) an initial Discovery phase will identify key safety issues at a local and national level, followed by (2) a subsequent improvement programme of work against agreed priorities arising from phase 1.

This vacancy is offered to 31st March 2023 to initially support delivery of Phase 1 of this programme.

The ideal candidates for these new roles will be colleagues who are interested in patient safety and service improvement. Particular skills such as influencing, teaching, and working with data will be essential. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their learning and practical examples of work in improvement and patient safety. Candidates should demonstrate an ambition for continuous learning.

The post holders can be based in Cardiff or Wrexham but will predominantly work remotely or at clinical sites across Wales rather than at an office base.

  • oProfessional registration with NMC appropriate to the role
  • oEducated to relevant Masters Degree level OR oAppropriate demonstrable experience (E.g. Significant experience working at Masters Level).
  • oEquivalent combination of Change management and Continuous Improvement knowledge/qualification: (e.g. courses covering psychology of change, professional development, workforce redesign, organisational culture, quality improvement
  • oProject management qualification

Desirable

  • oGroup facilitation qualification
  • oCoaching qualification

Experience

Essential

  • oRecent significant management experience in a senior role including staff management, ideally within the NHS
  • oExperience of successfully leading and implementing projects / programmes at a national level.
  • oExperience of working with and influencing senior clinicians
  • oExperience of working with Health Board Executive Teams
  • oExperience of preparing reports and information for Senior Clinicians, Health Boards and Welsh Government.
  • oExperience of successfully leading and implementing project driven improvement/change management
