Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our new User Centred Design Team as a Senior User Centred Researcher for the Data, Knowledge, and Research Directorate as we seek to create and deliver an ambitious Public Health data, research, and evaluation strategy for Wales.

This is a new post within the directorate and the postholder will be responsible for helping Public Health Wales improve UX processes and interactions to create a positive user experience for all our stakeholders including the Welsh population.

This role reports to the User Centred Designer and will be involved in how our organisation shapes its approach to engagement and customer experience.

The successful candidate focus will be to help deliver the best possible experience to our users and be an advocate for all our user needs ensuring we deliver a delightful user experience with the highest level of effectiveness, ease of use, and stakeholder/client happiness across our service and digital touchpoints.

Understanding our users needs and behaviours, in addition to measuring current user satisfaction is central to this role. This knowledge will help identify and drive areas of improvement in both the short and longer terms.

You will extensively utilise your experience in qualitative and quantitative user experience research using various research methods.

You will create personas through user research and data and be responsible for understanding the needs, motivations and emotions of our users across multiple themes.

You will use organise and execute agile research/validation sprints for digital and service touchpoints (e.g., field research, usability testing, accessibility and access testing, contextual inquiry).

You will manage programme delivery for complex and fast paced workstreams/projects, utilising experience gained in either the public and/or commercial sector.

You will develop and maintain relationships both internal and external to PHW, including diverse groups and / or participatory forums, having a strong customer focus and orientation towards being an excellent partner.

You will plan and prioritise your workload to ensure the departmental priorities are delivered within scope.

You will develop robust, user centred and re-usable products and services ensuring compliance and governance requirements are stringently met.

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level or equivalent in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, Psychology, Information Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience Evidence of continued professional development. Current knowledge of the public sector/NHS.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS, Welsh Government and strategies, policies and plans

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Extensive experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative user experience research using a variety of research methods with a demonstrated understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of the different methods Recent experience or in-depth knowledge of organising and executing agile research/validation sprints for digital and service touchpoints (e.g., field research, usability testing, contextual inquiry), especially in a healthcare or professional environment Project management Experience of mentoring junior members of staff in both quantitative and qualitative user research methods Demonstrable partnership working and collaboration
