Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head of Financial Accounting to lead a team to provide professional leadership to the financial accounting function, to help deliver the statutory financial reporting and ensure financial governance and control across the Trust.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced candidate, who is looking to progress their career as part of a supportive and highly driven team. Hybrid working , home or remote working; 37.5 hours per week (agile working from both office and home) . Location to be confirmed at interview.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Head of Financial Accounting will support the Head of Financial Accounting to provide professional leadership to the financial accounting function, to help deliver the statutory financial reporting and ensure financial governance and control across the Trust.

To provide a robust financial control environment in support of the Director of Finance's key statutory responsibilities in this area.

To lead operational balance sheet and working capital planning, forecasting and management, ensuring that appropriate systems and reporting are in place to operate effectively as an NHS Trust.

To support the development of the Trust's Medium/ Long Term Financial Strategy and annual planning process.

The post holder will be expected to use high level leadership, technical, analytical, presentational, inter personal and negotiating skills and develop effective working relationships with a range of internal and external colleagues.

  • Educated to Masters Level in a professionally related subject or equivalent level of practical experience within a senior financial/accounting position.
  • Specialist knowledge of financial/accounting procedures including knowledge of financial aspects of NHS legislation and NHS finance policies.
  • Qualified Accountant with CCAB membership.
  • Management qualification (e.g. ILM) or experience of staff management.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Experience

  • Experience of working within a financial environment at management level.
  • Experience of working with and advising non-financial managers and budget holders.
  • Experience of leading service improvement and development initiatives.
  • Experience of using Oracle Financials and QlikView system (or a similar system)
