Job summary

Job Outline:This post exists to head up the building section of the company, to take ownership and responsibility for the capital delivery for the projects that sit in that area, and also all new small works and the delivery of operational improvements and PPM's across the estate. Making sure any serious issues are escalated immediately so all stakeholders are aware of issues at earliest available time.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the operation and maintenance and upkeep of the buildings, engineering services and grounds and gardens contained within the Trust's estate, and for ensuring that the Estate is managed in accordance with the best practice guidance contained in the Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00 'Policies and Principles of Healthcare Engineering' (DoH 2014).Produces short, medium and long term plans for managing the maintenance of the estate, including the establishment of a strategic Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) programme and appropriate Reactive maintenance arrangements, all in line with the overall organisational objectives and in particular in support of critical healthcare services, which includes inputting into the Annual Maintenance Plan and Capital Programme in accordance with the Trust's business planning cycle.Ensures that 'Authorising Engineers' (or equivalent), as defined in the Department of Health's Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00: Policies and principles of healthcare engineering, are appointed and fully briefed for their relevant specialist building and engineering systems to meet the Trust requirements, and 4 liaises with the 'Authorising Engineers' and compliance team to ensure that the training and appointments for all 'Authorised', 'Responsible' and 'Competent Persons', or equivalents are up to date.

All Estates, Medical Engineering and Facilities staff are employed directly by Vital Services and although not NHS employees, are very much part of the BWC family, working together to be a world-leading team, providing world-leading care. healthcare engineering for the full range of specialised building and engineering technologies used in the delivery of healthcare, and works closely with the relevant Authorising Engineer (AE) to ensure that actions arising from the annual AE audits are completed within the specified timescales and that the Trust remains compliant with the relevant Healthcare standards, such as the HTMs.Inputs into fire team for the Trust as defined in Health Technical Memorandum 05-01: Helping Manage healthcare fire safety to ensure that appropriate fire precautions and protective measures are in place across the Trust's estate.
