Job summary

We are seeking a motivated Fire Safety Manager to develop the Fire Safety Management System for Birmingham Womens and Childrens NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver technical and managerial improvement to transform the service and drive reduction in Fire Safety Risk at our sites, so as to reduce the potential for harm for our patients, visitors and staff.

You will have responsibility for the design and operation of the system and will report to the Trusts Fire Safety Committee on progress, actions and risks. You will line manage two Fire Safety Officers to deliver the programme while maintaining close involvement on site to support and assist them. You will also assist with Security Management arrangements including a proactive approach to arson prevention.

The post holder will be a dynamic, proactive and enthusiastic individual who is able to develop strong working relationships with the clinical departments to ensure confidence in the Trusts fire safety arrangements, and provide assurance that issues will be addressed and resolved promptly.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a variety of specialist expert advice and assistance to a wide range of staff, senior managers and Trust directors. Experience of fire safety management and fire risk assessment in complex settings is desirable together with relevant fire safety qualifications.

You will need ambition and drive to deliver and transform the services we provide for the benefit of patients, their carers and Trust staff.

Consideration may be given to appointing candidates into a developmental role with an agreed developmental programme.

An excellent remuneration and training package on company terms and conditions will be offered depending on experience.

Essential

  • Must be eligible to work in the UK
  • Qualified or studying to degree level in a relevant subject, or relevant experience
  • Professional registration (to diploma or corporate membership level) in a relevant Fire-related subject area, or equivalent experience and ability to register

Experience

  • Knowledge of Fire Safety Management systems and legislation
  • Knowledge of risk management theory and techniques
  • Experience of carrying out Fire Risk Assessments and managing the delivery of remedial actions
  • Knowledge of Fire Safety principles in healthcare premises including the HTM 05 series

Desirable

  • Experience of Fire Safety Management in a complex healthcare context
  • Experience of Fire Risk Assessments in a complex healthcare context
  • Knowledge of fire-related building services and engineering principles, and ability to comment critically on system design for new installations e.g. of fire alarms, fire dampers, lifts etc.
