Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the teams on the Combined Haematology Oncology Centre (CHOC) Wards F5, 6, 7 as a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse. We have two permanent positions available. (Minimum 30 hours/per week).
At Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust, we have 47 beds across 3 wards that provide inpatient care for oncology patients and both malignant and non-malignant haematology conditions, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. We have 2 rooms dedicated to caring for patients post stem cell return for patients diagnosed with Myeloma and Lymphoma. We also have a radioiodine suite that provides speciality treatment for patients with thyroid cancer.
CHOC wards were the 2022 winners of the Pride of Portsmouth Working Together for Patients award and were nominated for a further 2 awards. We have also maintained our MQEM (Macmillan Quality Environment Mark) award since 2017.

We are looking for somebody with post registration experience within the field of cancer nursing. You will need to be competent in intravenous therapy and SACT administration.

Main duties of the job
Band 6s on CHOC have a highly varied role and includes (but not limited to):
Shifts are split between working on the wards clinically and carrying the bleep on patient flow shifts.
Supporting staff on the wards and acting as a
Patient flow - To act as a point of contact with the divisional commander for Networked Services Division (NSD) and the Trust wide patient flow team. To act as a central point of contact for admission onto the unit, including Acute Oncology
Complete Bed View acuity review and submit Safecare
Staffing management day to day including sickness and line management responsibilities
To provide leadership, specialist advice and support to all members of the CHOC team including senior managers.
Assist with Datix investigations and responding to complaints.
To manage any conflict on the unit, escalating to the appropriate senior if there has been no resolution.
Complete appraisals as scheduled
Complete return to work forms and action any occupational health referrals, informal warnings and HR referrals.
