Job summary
An opportunity to gain broad clinical and laboratory Haematology experience as a Registrar in a busy friendly Haematology department, in a large district general hospital.
Applications are invited for the position of Haematology Registrar to cover maternity leave. The post is available from 6th September 2023 for 12 months with possibility to extend. You will gain lots of Haematology experience in a friendly department, working alongside 8 Haematology consultants, one speciality doctor and 4 speciality registrars. There is also a team of 8 junior doctors (SHO) covering the Oncology and Haematology inpatients.
This post is not recognised for training however provides excellent clinical and laboratory Haematology experience and there are plentiful educational and training opportunities. It would be suitable for Drs wanting a broad experience in Haematology prior to speciality training. Clinical work includes outpatients, inpatient care including intensive chemotherapy and care of stem cell transplant patients. There will also be opportunity to gain experience in laboratory Haematology, bone marrow biopsies, anticoagulation, haemophilia and transfusion.
On call is just one in four weekends.
You will need to be eligible to work in the UK for Sept 2023, hold full GMC registration and a license to practise. MRCP preferred and prior Haematology experience or interest preferable.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will join the Haematology Team as a Trust appointed Registrar and share in the responsibilities of care of patients on the wards, assisting in clinics and laboratory reporting. Practical skills will include bone marrow biopsy and lumbar punctures. Previous haematology experience is desirable but not essential. Training will be given in all aspects of the job as required. Participation in teaching, audit and research will be expected.
The post-holders will contribute to the delivery of a high quality service, helping to drive a multi-disciplinary team approach to care within the specialty.
