Job summary

Are you leisure and fitness qualified instructor experienced in delivering a broad range of exercise and fitness classes? If yes, this role would be perfect for you. You will work in Oasis Centre a bespoke, purpose-built wellbeing centre within the Queen Alexandra hospital site which focusses on supporting the Health and Wellbeing needs of staff across Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. Oasis centre offers a swimming pool alongside a gym with taught classes.

This is a busy and varied role where you will have excellent communication and customer services skills, as the role requires regular interaction with staff and clients using the facilities. You will have a Level 2 qualification certificate in Exercise Instruction and work as part of a team who all hold physical activity and lifeguard qualifications. The team run staff activity classes and health programmes (Healthy You) to support people to maintain their health and wellbeing and support people returning to work through the Fit for work scheme. The team also deliver 1:1 personal trainer appointments, Aqua sessions, Circuits, Abs and stretch, menofit and bespoke Fit4Work programmes specifically designed for Portsmouth University NHS Trust staff.

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out the full range of Leisure/Wellbeing Centre duties including, but not limited to: Equipment checks, pool monitoring, gym inductions and writing programs for new and existing members.
  • Carry out the full range of admin and clerical duties of the centre, including the processing of payments and cash handling. Dealing with telephone and membership enquiries.
  • Provide Health Improvement advice which supports the care and education of users.
  • Deliver a variety of exercise programmes in line with service requirements.
  • Deliver a variety of group or 1:1 exercise classes/sessions that will support a diverse range of needs.
  • Work with the Oasis team leader to develop a variety of events, topics and themes that will promote health, fitness and wellbeing of employees across the organisation.
  • Act as the responsible person in charge of the centre in the absence of the centre manager or their deputy.
  • Attend scheduled staff training to maintain NPLQ status.

  • Broad understanding of anatomy and physiology.
