Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has an
exciting opportunity for an Operational
Manager (band 8a) to join our dynamic Cellular Pathology team at the Queen
Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
Cellular Pathology is a diverse department, composed
of three main areas. The Histopathology section processes over 40,000 specimens
per year and plays an essential part in supporting Cancer pathways for patients.
The department
boasts modern well-equipped laboratory facilities carrying out a range of
routine and specialist techniques including immunocytochemistry and special
staining. The Cytology section provides essential non-gynae diagnostic Cytology and
Andrology services to the Trust and local community. The excellent Mortuary facility holds a full HTA
licence and provides post-mortem services to the Trust and Hampshire Coronial
service. The department has UKAS accreditation to ISO15189, HTA licence
and is located in a state of the art Pathology
Centre and looks out over the City of Portsmouth and the Solent beyond. We are
a progressive department, always looking to improve and are currently working
on exciting projects to implement Digital Pathology reporting and upgrade our
laboratory information mangement system.
We are expanding our Cellular Pathology management structure.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual
to join our Operational Management team, helping to provide a high quality, patient-
focussed service.
Main duties of the job
You will be working in a modern well equipped
department providing operational management support to all areas of Cellular
Pathology, as part of the Cellular Pathology Management Team.
You will act as a joint operational lead and manage delivery of a
high quality, effective Cellular Pathology laboratory and mortuary service
under the direction of the Cellular Pathology Laboratory Service Manager (CPLM)
and in accordance with the requirements of ISO15189 and HTA.
You will act as a joint service lead for Quality, Clinical Governance
and Supplies Management, working closely with the Pathology and Cellular
Pathology Quality, Risk and Governance Managers (PQRGM / CPQRGM)
You will jointly support and coordinate the activities of the Band
7 Biomedical Scientist (BMS) team in all areas of Cellular Pathology, who each
have a designated lead role inc. Training, Health and Safety, Quality, IT, and
specific technical areas.
