The Clinical Neurophysiology Department at Portsmouth
Hospitals University NHS Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and
dynamic Consultant colleague to join our Department. The successful candidate
will provide a full range of neurophysiological tests across all age groups and
will join 2 Consultant colleagues in this role. This is a 10 PA post comprising
of 8 DCC and 2 SPA and we would be happy to support flexible working e.g. a
compressed job plan or four day working week.
You will have the opportunity to provide training,
supervision and support to Clinical Physiologists and Higher Specialty
Trainee’s.
Main duties of the job
To provide the full range of neurophysiological
tests appropriate to service need across all age groups.
General work
EMG/NCS clinics for inpatient and outpatient Consultant, Primary Care
and Specialist Physiotherapy referrals.

Reporting inpatient and outpatient EEGs, including ambulatory and
prolonged VT recordings.
·
Reporting evoked potential studies and supporting clinical physiologist
nerve conduction clinics.
·
Share with colleagues in the training, supervision and support of clinical
physiologists, including extended roles.
Provide training for the Portsmouth Higher Specialty Trainee in Clinical
Neurophysiology as Clinical Supervisor and
Southampton based rotating Neurology SPRs.
The job comprises 8 direct clinical care (DCC) and 2 supporting
programme activities (SPA). One of the SPA sessions can be taken off
site. We are happy to support flexible working (e.g. compressed job plan, four
day working etc.) Extra DCC PAs may be available following consultation with
the Clinical Lead, depending on departmental and personal requirements.

- -Demonstrable, significant and ongoing experience in delivering EMG and NCS including specialist techniques such as SFEMG
- -Interpretation of EEGs across the full age range, including prolonged and ambulatory EEGs.
- -Interpretation of other tests performed by clinical physiologists e.g., peripheral nerve clinics, evoked potentials
- -Experience in supporting the acute corridor in reporting urgent EEGs and providing timely inpatient EMG/NCS.
Desirable
- Training and experience in teaching of medical and clinical physiologist staff.
Skills

- -Professional and technical neurophysiological skills of high standard.
- -Understanding of clinical risk management.
- -Information technology and computer literacy, with an ability to learn to use new software packages and electronic equipment as needed.
- -Good oral and written communication, with effective, confident presentation ability

- Appropriate and relevant publications in peer reviewed journals; presentations at national or international meetings.
