We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Medical Illustration and Clinical Photography to lead our multidisciplinary team in delivering a high-quality, patient-focused service.This is a pivotal leadership role, combining clinical expertise with strategic oversight to ensure the delivery of innovative and compliant medical photography and illustration services across the Trust.

You will manage a team of clinical photographers, graphic designers, and administration staff, ensuring the provision of accurate, ethical, and timely visual documentation for clinical, educational, legal, and promotional purposes.

You will manage a team of clinical photographers, graphic designers, and administration staff, ensuring the provision of accurate, ethical, and timely visual documentation for clinical, educational, legal, and promotional purposes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Medical Illustration and Clinical Photography department, including service planning, staff development, and quality assurance.
- Oversee the delivery of clinical photography, video, graphic design, and multimedia services across all Trust sites.
- Ensure compliance with national standards, including patient consent, confidentiality, and data protection (e.g., GDPR, Caldicott principles).
- Collaborate with clinical teams, communications, and education departments to support patient care, training, and public engagement.
- Manage departmental budgets, procurement, and service contracts.
- Drive innovation in digital imaging, telemedicine, and visual communication technologies.

- - Relevant degree in Photography or Design
- - Masters level training or equivalent in a relevant subject
- - Significant experience working in a medical Illustration department
- - Previous supervisory experience
- - Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
- Registration with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) or membership of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI).
Experience

- Degree in Medical Illustration, Clinical Photography, or a related discipline. Substantial experience in a senior clinical photography or medical illustration role, ideally within the NHS. Proven leadership and team management skills.
Desirable
- Experience in service transformation or digital innovation projects. Familiarity with PACS, EPR, and NHS governance frameworks.
Additional criteria

- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, digital asset management systems, and clinical imaging protocols. Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.

- Management and budgetary training. An understanding of clinical photography processes.
