Trainee Echocardiographer

Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for two trainee Echocardiographers here at Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Performing 12 Lead ECGs and has a skilled knowledge of ECG interpretation
  • Working towards performing a transthoracic Echocardiogram to BSE minimum standards and producing a report to the BSE minimum dataset.
  • Act as assistant in TOE (Transoesophageal Echo).
Management and leadership

  • To supervise Band 5 Cardiac Physiologists and Assistant Technical officer staff groups.
  • Work towards leadership development.

Job responsibilities

The trainee will undertake the full training program in order to progress through the academic and practical elements of the Echocardiography training programme (ETP) .Trainees will undertake a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography at a designated academic institution specific for the training pathway.

Trainee's will be expected to complete all work-based training and assessment alongside the academic course to exit the Programme with eligibility for registration with the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) and the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS).All trainees will be expected to travel to national academic and other courses regularly throughout their training. In some cases, this may involve overnight and/or residential stays.The trainee will work closely with the training officer and more senior members of staff to follow the curriculum for the Echocardiography Training Programme.

Experience

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills, flexible, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize workload.
