Main duties of the job

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic early career Orthoptist to join the department based at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth. You will join a forward thinking department of 5.8 WTE Orthoptists and 4 Optometrists. The Ophthalmology department has 15 Ophthalmologists, three of which specialise in paediatric ophthalmology and ocular motility.

The successful candidate will be keen to develop their knowledge and skills, be a flexible and reliable member of the team and will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. This is a preceptorship post and upon completion of the Trust AHP and BIOS preceptorship programmes there will be opportunity to progress to Band 6 within this role. You will be supported by a mentor throughout your preceptorship journey.

Candidates must have a degree/diploma in Orthoptics and current registration with HCPC is essential.

  • To be responsible for planning and implementing orthoptic treatment plans/care pathways for patients of all ages.
  • To refer complex ophthalmic problems to an Ophthalmologist as necessary.
  • Screening at satellite clinics.
  • To work as part of a flexible team.
