The post will be based at Queen Alexandra Hospital University Trust. The post-holder will be expected to have RCOG ATSM for Advanced Laparoscopic surgery for the excision of benign disease (or equivalent), or have completed a fellowship in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery in a BSGE accredited Endometriosis Centre or equivalent and will undertake 4 endometriosis sessions each week. The other 4 hours in keeping with other consultants in the department will have specific Trust/Department SPA jobs allocated to them by the CD or Care Group Director (eg audit lead, coding tsar, patient experiences, college tutor) which they are expected to fulfil from SPA time.

Main duties of the job

On call requirements The current out of hours commitment for this post will be to take part in a rota providing emergency gynaecology cover for the department. Currently the rota for on-call consultant cover for obstetrics and gynaecology is 1 in 7 and 1 in 7-8 weekday evenings. Obstetrician/gynaecologists may do either obstetric or gynaecological out of hours duties. Gynaecologists with no obstetric responsibilities provide gynaecology out of hours cover only, always sharing on-call duties with an obstetrician. All on-call is covered by two consultants (one for obstetrics and one for gynaecology). Weekend on-call duties start at 5.00 pm on Friday through to Monday 8.30 am. This however, is subject to internal departmental review and may be revised. The agreed on call rota supplement is 5% (band A). The post holder will be on a 10 PA contract, of which 9 PA are for DCC and 1 PA for SPA. 1 PA is allocated to provide the evening and weekend 'out-of-hours' DCC and on-call from home in addition to the sessions noted in the job plan, on a similar basis to the other consultants covering gynaecology.
