We are seeking a confident and pioneering Matron to join our committed team within the Medicine Care Group at Portsmouth Hospital NHS Trust to contribute to and help drive clinical care improvements for our patients.
Main duties of the job
As Matron you will work within the General Medicine Services within the Medicine Care Group, taking responsibility for setting the standards and quality in the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Supported by the Care Group Triumvirate, Senior Matron and additional Matrons you will form part of a motivational nursing team. The Matron role is to provide professional and clinical leadership for all the nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of patient focused high quality standards of care are delivered to ensure patient safety and a positive patient experience, supporting the delivery of national and local strategic and operational service objectives.

The role will enable you to develop extensive skills in leadership, people management and finance within the clinical environment, whilst receiving excellent support for both your personal and professional development.
This role would be pivotal in developing new ways of working and ensuring quality patient care within the Care Group. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the front line of new ways of working and ensuring the services at Portsmouth Hospital NHS Trust offer the right care at the right time and in the right place.
The Matron for General Medicine will have overall management responsibility for the speciality, providing clear, visible leadership to create a culture of compassion, creativity and candour which is truly committed to improving the service user experience at every step of their care pathway.
The Matron is responsible for creating a range of systems and processes required to operationally manage their clinical area(s) and ensure mechanisms are in place to continuously monitor effectiveness.
The Matron has unit wide accountability and there is an expectation they will work together to introduce new innovations, support the research agenda, lead on Trust wide nursing initiatives and develop the service as a whole.

Essential
- Current RN +/- RN, registration with NMC and any other relevant post registration specialist qualifications.
- First degree essential and evidence of working towards Masters.
- Leadership development programme.
- Recognised teaching qualification /experience.
- Management qualification.

- Substantial experience of care management, experience of working in a senior role (Band 7) and with evidence of professional development.
- Budget management.
- Evidence of developing policy, guidelines and managing resources.
