Portsmouth Hospitals is offering an exciting opportunity for a proactive and proficient Matron.
This post allows for close working and collaboration with senior management, clinicians and external partners in the development of the service. The successful post holder will be based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital and will be an integral part of the Integrated Discharge Service.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated Nurse who is a role model for our Trust Values, can work autonomously, be flexible in their approach, inspire others and has excellent organisational and leadership skills to join us as Matron Discharge Services.
We are particularly interested in hearing from self-motivated applicants who have a dynamic approach to patient care, extensive post registration clinical experience and the ability to adapt to meet the needs of the service. The Matron will have overall management responsibility for their designated areas providing clear, inclusive leadership to create a culture of compassion, creativity and candour which is truly committed to improving the service user experience.
Matron should be visible within their area, undertaking regular clinical rounds, talking to patients and staff, listening to their concerns, dealing with complaints, and involving staff and patients in decision-making.
Set clear expectations to support staff in delivering compassionate care, creating systems to ensure they remain connected to their own and the organisations core values.
Responsible for creating a range of systems and processes required to operationally manage their area and to continuously monitor and improve effectiveness with a clear strategy for improvement.
The matron has accountability across the discharge service, always displaying professional clinical and professional credibility, work collaboratively to introduce new innovations, support the research agenda, lead on Trust wide nursing initiatives and service development.

- 1st Level Registered Nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- First Degree or equivalent experience
- Master's degree or equivalent educational or experience to meet this requirement
- Recognised Management and / or Leadership qualification
- Evidence of Continual Professional development

- Experience and / or teaching qualification.
- Published work in a clinical or health care area
