Job summary

If so, a fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Portsmouth Enablement Centre (PEC), located at St.Marys, as a Prosthetics Clinical Nurse Specialist. Portsmouth Enablement Centre provides a regional prosthetic service to people living in Portsmouth, Southampton and wider Hampshire, as well as some areas of West Sussex. It is one of over 40 such centres across the UK, including one of nine enhanced veterans care centres which provide specialist prosthetic and rehabilitation services for veterans whose amputation is attributed to their military service. This role is a twelve month fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job

The assessment, management and ongoing evaluation of patients following limb loss. This includes supporting patients along the entire age group from pre-natal support, children and adults. Ongoing assessment of patient's wounds post operatively, prior to and during prosthetic rehabilitation and ongoing once patients have then been issued with a prosthesis, as required. Acting as an expert resource in wound care to ensure patients can continue with rehabilitation. Working autonomously for two days per week as well as working alongside the clinical nurse specialist lead supporting the team with assessment of patients post trans-tibial amputation. Working alongside the consultant and multidisciplinary team to support patients following upper limb and trans-femoral amputation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN), current active registration with NMC
  • Willingness to undertake and attend relevant training, workshops are required
  • Safeguarding Children Level 3 training

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level

Experience

Essential

  • Significant demonstrable experience within wound care and Diabetes care
  • Minimum 3 years post registration experience including at least 2 years working in a role/area where wound care knowledge and knowledge of Diabetes has been obtained

  • Experience of working collaboratively with a range of other services within primary, secondary and social care
