Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Provide and deliver a high standard of nursing care by initiating and co-coordinating the assessment, planning, and evaluating of individual patients needs based on evidence.
  2. Regularly act, as nurse in charge after deemed competent with other staff, participating in the allocation of workload and ensuring efficient bed management and effective patient care.
  3. Liaise, report and document any relevant nursing/patient needs with other health care professionals with ongoing responsibility for patient care, communicating changes as they occur.
  4. Engage; interact with carers/family encouraging them to be actively involved in patients care planning care as outlined in the ward/unit philosophy.
  5. Maintain and continually develop in depth specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the individual clinical area.
  6. Report and manage untoward incidents such as complaints, clinical emergencies, and injury or drug administration errors as detailed in Trust-wide and local protocols and procedures.
  7. Promote health education within the clinical area and advise patient, family, and others in health promotion issues.
  8. Demonstrate an awareness of and compliance with health and safety regulations/procedures that apply to staff, patients, and visitors within Trust premises including reporting any deficiencies in equipment, furnishings or matters of hygiene.
  9. Supervise, assess, mentor and support all Health Care Professionals including bank and agency Staff in the clinical setting.
  10. Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and participate in the induction of locum staff to ward policies and routine.
  11. Demonstrate a commitment to evidence based practice and clinical excellence and play an active role in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care.
  12. Contribute towards ward or clinical projects, set and maintain standards of practice in conjunction with other team members, participate in audits and quality monitoring.
  13. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate and initiate appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff development and training.
