Job summary

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust are seeking a Biomedical Scientist with an interest and experience of pathology IT to lead on the training aspects of the implementation of a replacement LIMS across our busy pathology service.

Main duties of the job

This project forms part of a wider project to harmonise to a single LIMS across the South 6 Pathology network. You will work alongside a Trust IT Project Manager and also a Pathology IT Project Manager to oversee and manage the laboratory aspects of the project including integration, interfacing and mapping to upstream and downstream systems, Request for Change, data migration etc. which will require interaction with colleagues in Microbiology, Cellular Pathology and Blood Sciences. This is a temporary Band 7 position available until 31st December 2024.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MSc or equivalent in Biomedical Science
  • Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Be able to demonstrate a broad level of specialist knowledge and practical experience by possession of an Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Portfolio or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Significant knowledge of digital systems, systems configuration and data definitions
  • Strong understanding of project management
  • Demonstrable IT training ability

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of more than one improvement technique
  • Prince 2 practitioner qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Three years experience in a specialist BMS role within a clinical laboratory
  • Experience of project delivery
  • Experience of application testing
  • Evidence of leadership qualities
  • Evidence of presenting complex information to internal and external groups in an understandable way
  • Experience of working to demanding and competing timetables
  • Significant previous experience of leading or supporting a change in a project setting

  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to problem solve in a methodical and logical manner
  • Ability to use highly complex automated equipment and associated computer software systems
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work using own initiative and without supervision
