We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical secretary to work within the Orthopaedic service on a full-time basis to provide comprehensive secretarial and administration support to the clinical team and the department. The daily tasks will include audio typing clinical documents, secretarial typing support to a busy virtual clinic alongside the clinical team and assist in facilitating appointments and data collection where appropriate, general secretarial duties as well as assisting in the organisation of the consultants' workload.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a well organised individual who is highly motivated to join our busy team and who is committed to delivering a high quality service to our patients. Experience of typing/word processing and also audio typing is essential in this role. Medical secretarial experience, including support to a clinician and knowledge of medical terminology is also highly desirable. You must be able to communicate effectively and have strong interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of hierarchies and disciplines.

Assisting consultant/senior nurse to run a daily Virtual Fracture Clinic, necessitating live typing, scheduling appointments, and contacting patients with the clinical outcome. Patient/client care by giving non-clinical advice and providing information about the patient pathway, re-directing as necessary to the appropriate department. Answering telephones with excellent communication skills and in a timely manner. Planning and organising own time within standard operating procedures Routine duties, data entry and other tasks delegated by management. Implementation of policy, practice and procedure in own post and contribute to the debate on how implemented in the department. Maintenance of stocks according to Trust policy. Regular requirement to type reports and create presentations using software. Taking and transcribing of minutes of departmental and consultant meetings Maintenance of accessible and accurate electronic data storage for the department/consultant Audits as required for own work; or securing information or databases on behalf of a consultant under close supervision. Supporting the training and induction of new colleagues in the team.

  • Secretarial diploma RSA 3 or relevant equivalent
  • Combination of Training courses in office procedures, business administration and typing/keyboarding courses.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of NHS specific software
