Job summary

The dedicated and enthusiastic paediatric team at Queen Alexandra Hospital is looking to appoint a Consultant in General Paediatrics with a special interest in paediatric renal medicine to work in our busy children's unit. They will be part of the general paediatric team, comprising of nineteen paediatricians who provide acute and outpatient general paediatric services. Successful applicants should be fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT in general paediatrics. Experience in paediatric renal medicine is essential. Interview date: 19th January 2024

Main duties of the job

This is a 10 PA post in general paediatrics with a special interest in Paediatric Renal medicine. Part-time applicants are welcome. Applicants should have a CCT in general paediatrics (or equivalent).

Job responsibilities

This post will support an existing consultant with a Paediatric Renal interest. We are in the process of developing a model for shared care outpatient clinics with our sub-specialty Paediatric nephrology colleagues from University Hospital Southampton (UHS). We currently have visiting Paediatric urology clinics monthly, again with colleagues from UHS. This post will also help support the management and delivery of care for children with atenatally diagnosed renal tract abnormalities.

The successful appointee will join a motivated and supportive team of consultants who work a six week cycle of hot weeks to provide the consistent delivery of acute paediatric services and cover for the inpatient wards. Outpatient services and on-call cover to the children's unit and the Paediatric Emergency Department are also incorporated. Resident evening working is part of job plans whilst overnight on-call is non-resident. The department has responsibility for all children in ED, on the children's surgical ward, or on ITU. Occasional Safeguarding work may arise out of hours, and the post holder will be expected to follow local guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed start date must be within 6 months)
  • CCT in paediatrics or equivalent
  • APLS or PALS Certification
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • MB BS or equivalent

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher Medical Degree

Experience

Essential

  • 4 or more years at ST4+ (or equivalent) in paediatrics with appropriate community paediatrics and neonatal experience
  • Evidence of training and expertise in Paediatric Renal medicine
  • Experience in Safeguarding

Ability

Essential

  • Knowledge, clinical and technical skills to provide a Consultant Service in Acute General Paediatrics
  • Knowledge and skills demonstrating a good understanding of Paediatric renal medicine

Desirable

  • Knowledge and skills which will enhance the spectrum of the specialist services provided in the department
