Main duties of the job

Hampshire Hospitals Heart Centre at Basingstoke provides high-quality care in a professional but relaxed and friendly environment for patients undergoing cardiac angiography, cardiac angioplasty, permanent pacemaker insertion, cardiac devices and other cardiac tests on a day case basis.

The Stock Management Officer (SMO) works closely with the cardiac team ensuring that the correct clinical devices and medical equipment are available in the right place at the right time to ensure patients receive the best care.

Working hours - Mon-Fri 08.00-16.00

SMOs provide a daily stock management service - ensuring accurate levels are always held in stock at the same time receiving goods into the unit and putting them away.

Please note that WPL does not hold a Home Office Workers Licence and therefore unable to offer sponsorship.

Job responsibilities

General Duties

  • Working under own initiative, responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day Materials Management operation for specifically allocated wards/departments. Coordinate own workload to undertake counts to replenish stock to previously agreed levels using PDA bar code data capture technology.
  • Meeting ordering and delivery deadlines for consumables for patient care to be maintained by medical staff. For urgent items, be able to assess clinical requirements (i.e., procedural urgency/quality/price/supply route etc.) and implement effective ordering and distribution mechanisms. To download the information to the computerised materials management system.
  • To replenish, receipt, issue and stow stock using Inventory Management System (IMS), ensuring capture of lot number and expiry of products as required. Use IMS systems and devices to record transactional data.
  • To perform cycle counts in the Inventory Management System as per standard operating procedures.
  • Provide advice to customers and liaise with suppliers using persuasive skills to improve performance and delivery within the supply chain service
  • Play an active role in setting up ward/department stock profiles to suit clinical requirements. Physically setting out storerooms and reflecting requirements into the computerised materials management system. Actively develops, implements, and maintains managed inventory solutions in specialist areas with Supply Chain Lead.
  • Liaise with procurement to facilitate 'best value' purchase of items required, guiding customers regarding value for money opportunities and responsible for spotting potential savings and recommending courses of action to the manager, ensuring savings are recorded using appropriate methods and reported as required to the Supply Chain lead and relevant clinical lead.
