Job summary

We are thrilled to offer a unique opportunity here at Velindre University NHS Trust to join our Bank Team as our Programme Director of LEAN Improvement.

As the post holder you will lead improvement initiative prompted by the service transition required in advance of the new Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC) and 'train' teams, and leaders in the trust to integrate improvement skills as part of business as usual.

The post-holder will provide VUNHST with expertise in the theory and practice of LEAN, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, and transformation. The post-holder needs to be adept at working across departments and all levels of the organisation to analysis the 'as is', inspire, design, and lead the development of service improvement plans.

The change focus and the need to work across the organisation means that there is an even greater demand on their credibility and persuasion skills. Fundamental to the role is the need to bring external expertise into the organisation, based on capital build programmes and leading the rolling out of LEAN driven service improvements. As such they will work with other agencies and health care providers, identify and initiate contact with external experts.

Main duties of the job

The Programme Director Lean Improvement will be a proactive role within Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST), working on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer with the Director of Service Delivery, nVCC and BAU teams to ensure that all services are ready to transition to nVCC.

Work with internal & external teams and stakeholders on Velindre Future Programmes to ensure service change in advance of nVCC.

Network and benchmark with external organisations to ensure that best practice is being used and that nVCC services will operate within the 'top percentile' nationally,

Identifying and extracting research opportunities, where possible to ensure that the Mutual Investment Model (MIM) is integrated as part of delivery.

Develop and communicate project and improvement expertise, to build capability and capacity in operational teams.

Define and analyse complex problems, communicating in an accessible way for all audiences.

Develop the understanding and capability within BAU of LEAN Methodologies, how to apply and use to improve services across VUNHST.

Build organisational LEAN, project and continuous improvement capability based on sharing information and embedding a learning culture.
