Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Risk and Assurance Manager to work within the Corporate Governance Team. You will need to be a dynamic, professional, forward thinking, confident, highly motivated individual who will need to act with diplomacy, flexibility and effective communication, using your initiative and judgement.

The Risk and Assurance Manager will be an integral part of the Corporate Governance function to support the Trust in undertaking effective Risk and Assurance management across the organisation. You will adopt a business partnership approach and be responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of robust Risk and Assurance governance process and systems across the organisation. The post holder will develop strong business partnership relationships to improve integration between governance and delivery through a shared understanding of business priorities of operational service delivery teams within the Trust, to add business value, agility and responsiveness in effective Risk and Assurance management arrangements.

Main duties of the job

The Risk and Assurance Manager will work collaboratively with operational delivery teams and corporate directorates to develop and embed a proactive risk management culture within the Trust. You will facilitate the continuous improvement, development and delivery of the Risk and Assurance agenda to support the achievement of organisational objectives, delivery of safe and effective services, and compliance with the Trust Risk and Assurance Frameworks.

The Risk and Assurance Manager will be a positive role model and have a broad knowledge and technical understanding of risk management and assurance, have excellent communication and organisation skills and the ability to work autonomously using their own initiative. The post holder will proactively seek opportunities to benchmark and learn from others adopting innovative practice to optimise effective corporate governance arrangements that support the Trust Risk and Assurance agenda.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in relevant field.
  • Qualification or specialist knowledge of risk and assurance to postgraduate diploma level, such as a qualification in governance or risk management, e.g., International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management, or equivalent experience in a large and complex organisation
  • Evidence of CPD in relevant field
  • Knowledge of corporate governance frameworks and evidence-based assurance systems
  • Understanding of risk management processes and practices including risk appetite/tolerance
  • Working knowledge of Datix or other risk information management systems
  • Understanding of confidentiality based on data protection/GDPR and Caldicott principles

Desirable

  • Member of relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Risk Management (IRM))

Experience

Essential

  • Advanced use of IT packages to support production of documentation, statistical information, etc.
  • Sound planning and organisational skills.
  • Significant experience of risk management and assurance within the NHS or large public or private organisation
  • Experience of delivering training programmes (in particular risk and/or assurance)
  • Experience of writing formal reports for Board/Committees
