An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated person to take on the role of Claims, Redress & Inquests Manager within the Quality and Safety Team at Velindre.
The successful candidate will hold a varied caseload of redress cases, legal claims and Coronial inquests. They will work closely with NHS Wales Legal & Risk colleagues, the Welsh Risk Pool, and external law firms, developing excellent relationships to ensure the Trust is properly advised, represented and reimbursed following legal and redress cases.
A good level of knowledge of the procedures associated with the management of claims, Coronial law, consent, Putting Things Right Regulations and the Redress arrangements, in addition to the Duty of Candour is important for this role.
The post holder will maintain a legal database and analyse complex information. They should have a proven track record of case management. The post holder will also need to be skilled in analysing and presenting data in the form of reports, to inform organisational learning, improve patient safety and provide assurance.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that claims are handled effectively and efficiently, within the Trust's procedures, and in accordance with 'Putting Things Right Guidance on Dealing with Concerns about the NHS from 1 April 2011,' and the Civil Procedure Rules
To represent the Trust as necessary at external litigation case meetings including court hearings in respect of personal injury and medical negligence claims
Facilitate the provision of legal advice on any medico legal issues that arise, as appropriate, to staff at all levels
Ensure relevant strategies, policies, procedures, training, guidance, and advice are in place, alongside practical solutions and problem-solving to ensure safe, suitable, and effective working practices and environments which enables the Trust to meet statutory, mandatory, regulatory, and best practice requirements
Be responsible for the Management of Inquests, including meeting all His Majesty's Coroner timescales and requirements, supporting staff in making witness statements and when attending as witnesses in accordance with legislation governing Inquests and escalation of any issues or concerns in respect of the inquest process
Support the Deputy Head of Quality, Safety and Assurance in ensuring robust oversight of the 'Putting Things Right' Agenda - including leading on the PTR Panel / Redress Panel held to review cases
