Job summary

To provide an effective medicines management service to the cancer services speciality, including work with patients in inpatient, day case and outpatient settings.

To assist with cancer drug procurement, stock shortages and service efficiencies.

To be responsible for SACT stock management within EAMS (Early Access Medicines Schemes) and for compassionate use drugs.

To support the provision of oral SACT through validation of defined oral SACT and delivery of new patient talks.

To line-manage and support the development of the Band 5 cancer services medicines management technician.

This new post provides a unique opportunity to join the pharmacy team at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and fulfil a specialist medicines management role across Cancer Services (oncology and haematology).

The post holder will be embedded into the experienced Eastern cancer services pharmacy team which includes six cancer services clinical pharmacists and a specialist medicines management technician. Together the team provides oncology and haematology ward support and manages Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) for inpatients and outpatients. The team works closely with the multi-disciplinary cancer services team including doctors, nurses and non-medical prescribers.

This new role is an exciting opportunity to specialise in a constantly evolving clinical area and to develop the cancer services medicines management service, as part of a supportive team. It presents a novel opportunity (after training) to fulfil an expanded medicines management technician role validating defined oral SACT.

As a key member of the Trust, youll be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients when they need it most.

We are looking for an innovative and experienced medicines management technician to join our team and provide medicines support for cancer patients. This role provides extensive opportunities to develop within a specialist role in a supportive environment with comprehensive training.

You will be joining our team at an exciting time as we become further integrated into the multidisciplinary developments within the wider cancer SACT service and work towards the launch of the Peninsula-wide Beacon Oncology module of EPIC (the Trusts electronic patient record).

You must be highly self-motivated, able to demonstrate leadership skills and have the ability to plan and work, both independently and as part of the wider healthcare team, to deliver excellent pharmaceutical care to our patients.

You will be an excellent communicator interacting with healthcare professionals and patients.

Requirement to participate in 7 day working to include late duties, bank holidays and weekend working.
