Job summary

Main duties of the job

Role Summary

  • Provide a proactive and professional welcome to the ward reception, acting as the public face for the RDUH Trust.
  • Deliver an efficient administrative and clerical service to the Ward Team
  • Maintain effective communication to both patients, relative and staff in order to ensure the smooth running of the ward; enhancing patient care
  • Provide excellent customer care which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, treating them with tact and empathy
  • The post holder will be required to undertake additional hours to cover for colleagues during periods of annual/sick leave/bank holidays

The Community Services Division is looking to recruit a Ward Clerk, on a Job Share basis to provide cover for the In-Patient ward at Exmouth Hospital. The hospital ward is a busy and stimulating place to work and benefits from excellent team working and an innovative new Trust-wide IT system.

This will be an interesting and challenging role, contributing to patient care by supporting the Clinical Teams. You would be responsible for providing an efficient and effective clerical service to the clinical teams and to be the first point of contact for patients, relatives and visitors to the ward. This is an integral role within the multi-disciplinary team and the candidate would require excellent communication, administration skills and IT experience. They will also be adaptable, enthusiastic, well-motivated, and able to use their own initiative. The successful candidate must be a proven team player and have experience of working in a busy environment with minimal supervision.

The post holder will be able to deal appropriately with patient confidentiality issues and provide excellent customer care service to the general public. Attention to detail and accurate record keeping are essential. There will be a requirement to have a flexible approach to working hours to meet the demand for the service and the successful candidate will be required to work additional hours to cover annual leave/sickness.
