Job summary

The post holder will act as a Medical Physics Expert in Diagnostic Radiology, and be involved in both our Diagnostic Radiology Physics and Radiation Protection teams. Services are provided to clinical departments, including Radiology, Cardiology, Breast Care and Theatres, as well as private dental and veterinary customers across the SEND area.

The successful candidate will be based primarily at the Exeter site, but off-site work will be expected across the Devon area providing support to Northern and Community Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust services as well as to our private customers. The department actively encourages staff training and development and is an accredited training centre for the NSHCS training scheme for both the STP and HSST schemes. This role will therefore be involved in providing training and the supervision of trainees.

Due to team expansion we are looking to recruit a permanent full time Band 8a Clinical Scientist to join the Diagnostic Radiology Physics (DRP) team at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. DRP sits within the Clinical Radiation Physics (CRP) team and the post is based in the beautiful city of Exeter.

This is an exciting time to join the Medical Physics team at this Trust due to a recent restructure and the development of collaborative working across the SEND (South, East and North Devon) Medical Physics network, which includes the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and North Devon Healthcare NHS Trust. Our friendly CRP team currently is made of up 12 physicists/technologists, plus two apprentices, and forms part of the wider Medical Physics department with a team of over 40.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who can work autonomously but also as part of a wider team. Suitable candidates will preferably have attained HCPC registration and Medical Physics Expert accreditation, but consideration will be given to the right candidate for appointment at a lower grade with support to get them to the required level.

All staff are also involved in continuing development and improvement of the service and are encouraged to challenge and question the way things are done with the aim of providing a service which can be described as best in class.

The department has a developing relationship with the University of Exeter for both Medical Physics services and academic partnership.

In October 2020 the Trust became the first in the country to implement a single electronic patient record system across both its acute and community settings, allowing for joined up care and a chance to change the way in which healthcare is delivered.

The beautiful cathedral city of Exeter is named as one of the best 20 places to live in the UK. Set in the midst of glorious Devon countryside and close to the English Riviera, South West coastline and stunning beaches, the city boasts excellent links by road, rail and air to the rest of the country, Europe and further afield, whilst being within easy reaches of picturesque Dartmoor and Exmoor scenery. The area provides endless possibilities for outdoor leisure and pursuits, quite literally at your door.

A full driving licence and access to a car would be highly advantageous but not essential.
