Job summary

Solent's Community Neuro Rehab services are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist to lead their Vocational Rehabilitation Services. The role will provide clinical leadership and expert clinical intervention to the Neuro Vocational Rehab pathway and will work alongside the Clinical Lead for the Long Covid Vocational Rehab pathway to provide operational leadership across the whole service.

The ideal candidate will have clinical experience working with a neurological population and a knowledge of delivering vocational rehabilitation; as well as a keen interest in this specialist area. The individual will be required to have sound leadership, operational and people management skills.

Main duties of the job

  • To support with the co-ordination and development of the provision of an effective and efficient Vocational Rehabilitation Service (VRS) for Neurological and Stroke and Long Covid clients within Southampton / South West Hants.
  • To provide highly specialist occupational therapy skills within Vocational Rehabilitation.
  • To undertake advanced specialist therapeutic assessments and treatment for your own caseload of patients with diverse and complex conditions, developing and delivering individualised treatment programmes.
  • To be an advocate for patient empowerment and promote a rehabilitation ethos in all elements of patient care and activity.
  • To maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To support the case management process by providing expert clinical advice and therapy to patients with a variety of complex conditions.
  • To support senior and junior staff to develop their skills and map their development needs alongside the workforce plan.
  • To provide strong clinical and operational leadership within the VRS team, which inspires, motivates and empowers the team and promotes a structure of clear authority and credibility, embedding a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement within their area of responsibility.
  • To support Service leads in planning, delivering and evaluating care pathways in partnership with OT colleagues and other MDT colleagues and together lead the planning, delivery / evaluation of all elements of rehabilitation programmes.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.

Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.

The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

  • UK Health Professions Council registered (HCPC, NMC) Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist/Nurse with education to degree level or equivalent.
  • Post graduate training or equivalent experience.
  • Education to master's level or equivalent experience.

  • Member of RCOT
