Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an exceptional and highly skilled Public Health Nursing Services Manager to provide a strategic and operational lead for our Public Health Nursing Services in Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton. This role is part of the extended senior leadership team of the Solent Child & Family service line.

The post holder will be strategically accountable for the operational delivery of Public Health Nursing Services, including Health Visiting, School Nursing and Family Nurse Partnership across each locality, with the added alignment of Early Help services provided by Portsmouth City Council to deliver an integrated Early Help and Prevention service in Portsmouth City. The role has a strong focus on operational performance, clinical excellence and strategic development, whilst also building and maintaining important stakeholder relationships to deliver the best outcomes for children and families

The post holder will be expected to be able to adapt to the changing requirements emerging over time and support changes to both the service delivery model and staffing structures.

The role will require strong leadership in a multi-agency environment, requiring a strong clinical / professional and operational background. The post holder will be expected to communicate effectively, including highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, to a wide range of potential audiences.

Main duties of the job

Acting as the strategic lead for the development, implementation and delivery of Public Health Nursing services within Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton, they will ensure a safe and effective patient service is provided and under the supervision and management of the Integrated Head of Early Help and Prevention (for Portsmouth) and Operations Director (for Southampton and Isle of Wight) to manage the integrated clinical, operational, staffing and financial performance associated with the Public Health Services portfolio.

The Public Health Nursing Services Manager will be responsible for the visible leadership of core staff groups through to the service line senior leadership team and line management of respective senior managers. Using their leadership skills, they will be a visible, accessible and professionally authoritative presence, providing leadership, management and supervision.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.

Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.

The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.
