Job summary

The position of Clinical Team Lead in the Single Point of Access (SPA) team is a dynamic role. The successful candidate will be a collaborative lead who is passionate about delivering positive outcomes for CYP. They will be knowledgeable about clinical aspects of specialist CAMHs and have experience of delivering interventions within CYP MH services.

Our Solent CAMH Service is a specialist mental health service that works alongside children aged 0-18 and their families to address their mental health needs and improve their day to day lives. The successful candidate will based in the vibrant and dynamic city of Portsmouth. The service serves a socially and economically diverse population. It benefits from strong working relationships across many agencies and regional areas. Solent CAMHS pride ourselves in fostering a collaborative approach with our partners and families to children's social, emotional and mental health needs.

The service is made up of a variety of professionals and disciplines which support our holistic approach. These professionals are aligned to several teams within the service that work closely together and share knowledge and skill to meet the needs of our young people and their families, as well as foster a culture of learning and improvement. We are an innovative CAMHS team that value's and supports staff development and wellbeing, and all share a passion for building resilience in our community and responding to the mental health needs of our service users.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical team lead will be positioned to provide strong clinical leadership for the CAMHS SPA Team, ensuring through evidence evidence-based practice the team continuously contribute to improvement of the quality and shape of responsive services. They hold responsibility for monitoring and ensuring maintenance of standards of care that support safe high quality practice through an episode of care. They promote the emotional and mental wellbeing of children and young people by developing skills within community-based settings and by providing early intervention. The role has four key themes: Consultation, Liaison, Supervision, Training and Direct Clinical Work. There are three additional leadership roles: Operational Leadership, Financial and Strategic. Job responsibilities

Consultation

The aim of the consultative role is to identify the child's mental health needs and to consider appropriate ways of meeting them in partnership with professionals already working with them. Consultation is offered through a range of initiatives, including telephone and face-to-face advice.

Liaison

The facilitation of collaboration between agencies to work towards defining the best approach to meet the mental health needs of the child. The liaison role includes networking and being a catalyst for effective multi-agency partnership working.

Training

Multi-agency training should be offered to a range of professionals in order to increase understanding of mental health issues and to consolidate existing knowledge through experimental learning, enabling them to recognise and manage child mental health problems at an early stage.

Supervision

The Team Lead will be required to provide Case Load Management to members of the CAMHS SPA Team and attend clinical supervision themselves.

Intervention

Undertake assessment of the level of mental health needs or to support the practitioner in work that they are already undertaking, or to provide education and support to partner agencies (such as social care) and carers about specific management techniques.

Direct intervention with children and families, where mental health needs have not been responsive to methods and interventions undertaken by universal professionals and the level of need is not appropriate for intervention within core extended CAMHS. Direct interventions should be tailored to the child and families identified needs. Direct work should be evidence based and drawn from a range of interventions, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectic Behavioural Therapy and systemic interventions.

Key duties and responsibilities.

Operational Leadership

The Team Leader will hold line management responsibilities for staff within the team and complete the appraisal process for these staff members.

The Team Leader will share in preparing and chairing the various CAMHS Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.

To manage complaints raised by service users/stakeholders

To monitor the performance of staff via case management and clinical supervision sessions. The team leader will have a responsibility to facilitate either case management or clinical supervision sessions with the team

Financial

The Team Leader will facilitate learning and training opportunities for staff in the team.

The Team Leader will have the responsibility to effectively manage and sign off the travel claims and monthly expense claims.

Strategic

The Team Leader will take a lead on issues of service development and meeting the service specific objectives, as agreed with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

The Team Leader will help to implement the wider service objectives/strategy.

Clinical

To undertake complex mental health assessments of children and their families with a wide variety of mental health needs within a range of settings.

To plan and provide interventions for children and their carers that are evidence based.

To work alongside colleagues from other disciplines, such as social workers, support teachers, educational psychologists and other mental health professionals.

To ensure a multi-professional/agency approach to care is maintained and focused at providing the most appropriate care package for individual children and families most at risk.

To contribute to planning meetings, observations, assessments and reports relating to the post.

To ensure clear written communication with other agencies and referrers as required.

To promote clinical effectiveness using clinical protocols and guidelines.

To take the lead on developing reflective practice within the clinical area.

To attend and participate in the supervision systems, ensuring that supervision received is appropriate to the therapeutic task being undertaken.

To attend monthly CAMHS team lead meetings.

To consult and liaise with other related professionals in Education, Health, Social Services and the voluntary sector, as appropriate, on matters of mutual concern regarding CAMHS clients.

To chair both clinical and non-clinical multidisciplinary team meetings as required.

Electronic Health Record Keeping

Entering client information onto the electronic health record to include:

Entering appointments at least a week in advance within the diary section

Outcoming appointments

Creating contemporaneous progress notes

Completing risk assessments and care plans

Completing relevant reports using the naming convention procedures

Entering a provisional diagnosis where appropriate

Audit

To contribute in data collection returns of activity and clinical effectiveness in line with policies and procedures.

To take a lead in audit and outcome projects.

Continuing Professional Development

To ensure knowledge and skills are updated.

To undertake any training needs identified for professional and service development.

Professional

To ensure care is delivered in a person-centred manner ensuring the gender, ethnic, cultural and spiritual needs of service users inform practice.
