Job summary

Solent are offering a great opportunity for either a qualified Clinical Psychologist or for a Newly Qualified Psychologist to join us on a Preceptorship!

In the role, you will provide input to a specialist Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team, based within the Community Neurological Service (CNS) which is a specialist multi professional service developed for patients with one of the following neurological conditions - Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson's Disease and Traumatic Brain Injury. The team is based within the St Mary's Community Hospital site in Portsmouth but many patients are seen within the community. The service aims to provide access to a range of coordinated, multi-professional interventions to enable patients with neurological conditions to maintain optimal independence.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Psychologist is a key member of the MDT and will provide neuropsychological assessment, formulation and rehabilitation as well as supporting other members of the team to develop a psychological understanding of patients' difficulties.

We are a large Neuropsychology Department which consists of 9 Clinical Neuropsychologists/Psychologists in Neuropsychology working across the rehabilitation pathway. We offer regular accredited supervision and there are excellent professional development opportunities. We can provide supervision for candidates wanting to undertake the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QICN).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's Degree in psychology.
  • Doctoral level qualification in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsych) or equivalent postgraduate training recognised by BPS and HCPC (for those qualified outside the UK or before 1996)
  • Postgraduate qualification conferring eligibility for chartership by the British Psychological Society including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practitioner Psychologist

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings, such as outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings
  • Experience of working with neurological problems
  • Experience of working with a variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
