Job responsibilities
Clinical and Professional
*To be responsible for delivering highly specialist interventions in a way that is integrated with the work of other disciplines.
*To contribute to the assessment and formulation of presentation for children and young people with Learning Disability and/or Autism and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models in the best interest of the child / young person.
*To be responsible for ensuring effective multi-agency working to support children and young people with Learning Disability and/or Autism to ensure they are supported using least restrictive practice and evidence-based interventions
*To work as part of wider system Learning Disability and Autism workstreams including work on CETR, and the Dynamic Support Register
*To be responsible and accountable for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by nursing-based care plans.
*To regularly review and monitor outcome of assessment and effects of treatment in line with goal-based outcomes and the care programme approach.
*To communicate highly sensitive and complex information to children, young people and their families as well as to the professional network supporting them.
*To provide expert and highly specialist advice, guidance and consultation on the mental health needs of children and young people to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
*To attend Core Group meetings and Team Around the Child meetings and other relevant meetings as required.
*To undertake risk assessments and risk management for individual clients and to provide expert advice to other professions on aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
*To deliver regular clinical professional supervision to other team members.
*To lead on the development of care pathways and other treatment protocols.
*To contribute to the development and delivery of the learning and development plan. Taking responsibility for the delivery of training relevant to expertise.
*To promote and role model participation with children, young people and families in all aspects of service delivery and development.
*To manage and prioritise own workload, competing demands and clinical commitments with support from line manager as required.
*Take part in regular professional appraisal identifying areas for continuing professional development.
*To operate within the guidance and Code of Ethics of the relevant professional body
*To act in accordance with legal requirements contained within the Mental Health Act 1983, the Children's Act 1994 and other legislation
*To have knowledge of and act in accordance with Southampton City Safeguarding Children's Board.
Communication
*To communicate effectively through written notes and reports and verbal communication with all relevant personnel involved in the YP's care.
*To possess IT skills in order to effectively communicate in writing with colleagues, other professionals and families in accordance with trust policies e.g., writing of comprehensive report
*To participate in clinical supervision, ensuring supervision received is appropriate to the therapeutic work being undertaken and is in line with guidelines laid down by the regulatory body
*To liaise and joint work with colleagues, other professionals and agencies as required in relation to both clinical work and the wider agenda of working in partnership within a multi-agency framework.
*To participate in team clinical meetings in order to share expertise, promote good practice and the safety of clients.
*To participate in referrals meeting as required. Making clinical decisions as part of this group regarding the appropriateness of new referrals in line with referral criteria. Assessing the level of clinical need for referrals accepted and communicating outcomes to referrers.
Knowledge, Education and Training
*You will need a sound knowledge and experience of the needs of young people and their families who present with Autism or Learning Disability
*To act as an effective role model for other staff in clinical and professional areas of nursing and other disciplines.
* In conjunction with senior staff, to act as a facilitator and mentor for pre-registration students. .
* To assist in maintaining a suitable learning environment for all staff within the Jigsaw Integrated Service, assisting with orientation and education programmes.
*To provide effective teaching to young people and their families specific to their needs in relation to the nature of treatment offered, including general health education and promotion, providing additional information on where they may seek advice or support on a local/national level.
* To co-ordinate and enhance understanding of the service users' journeys through the healthcare system.
*To support and help facilitate colleagues' professional development.
* To facilitate the dissemination of information regarding new or updated clinical practices, guidelines and policies to all staff and ensure their implementation.
*Knowledge of approaches or models of working relevant to CAMHS e.g. behavioural, attachment models
*Knowledge of guidelines/policy informing best practice within Learning Disability and/or Autism services for children and families.
*Knowledge of research and models of good practice that inform direct and indirect working
*Knowledge of evidenced treatments when working with young people with Learning Disability and/or Autism
*To take responsibility to attend all Trust mandatory sessions and updates e.g. Fire Training, Resuscitation, Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults etc.
Management and Leadership
*To lead in working with the CAMHS Management Team and other clinicians to ensure the highest quality of nursing care is delivered within the service and this is measurable.
*To maintain up to date and relevant knowledge of national policy to influence service development and delivery as a result.
*To lead in developing specialist treatment protocols related to the presentation of children and young people in accordance with NICE guidelines and best available evidence.
*To lead in taking action to ensure that the service maintains a high quality and strongly motivated team with a common vision for the future and one which is in line with the service and Trusts overall vision.
*To represent the service as required in key Trust and stakeholder meetings.
*To advise on the monitoring of workload and case mix in terms of best practice, and to assist in the capacity mapping for the service.
*To lead on recruitment and retention within the Jigsaw health team and support within the wider Jigsaw Integrated Service.
*To lead on the provision of professional advice and support to Service Managers and overall Lead Clinician on issues of professional performance and capability.
*To work with other members of the CAMHS management team in the development of a high quality responsive and accessible service for children, families and carers. This may include professionally advising and managing those aspects of the service where nursing and/or organisational issues need addressing.
*To work with relevant higher education authorities to encourage the placement of students in service.
*All staff must follow Trust clinical governance requirements.
