Job summary

We are looking for a qualified psychologist to support people with a learning disability providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy, advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

The Portsmouth Integrated Learning Disability Service provides specialist services to adults with a learning disability. This is achieved through a process of Person-Centred Care, which is comprehensive and responsive to the needs of the individual and their family/carers. The team is rated as Outstanding by CQC.

We are looking for candidates who hold a professional registration with HCPC and hold a full UK driving licence and have access to the use of a car.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care

Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment &/or management of a client's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings

To work within the Intensive Support Team for a proportion of the week on complex cases alongside the Behavioural Analyst and the Senior Nurses.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS. Or base mental health profession and BABCP accredited CBT Diploma
  • Registered with Health professions as a Practitioner Psychologist or BABCP as a CBT Therapist
  • Have and maintain HCPC registration as a clinical psychologist.

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a full range of care settings
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical abuse

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Prequalification experience of working with people with learning disabilities.
