Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time (10 PA) consultant post working within our Genitourinary and HIV medicine service. The post is situated in our Aldershot Hub.

We provide GU Medicine, HIV Medicine and Sexual & Reproductive Health Services within Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We have a one-year extension on the current contract until March 2023 and it is likely that this will be extended for a further year to March 2024. The principal clinics are based in Portsmouth, Southampton, Eastleigh Basingstoke and Aldershot. There are "spoke clinics" which provide integrated nurse led GU Medicine/Sexual &Reproductive Health Services. Clinics provide a mix of same day appointments and booked appointment clinics. There has been considerable investment in IT and clinics are linked via a electronic patient record.

You will be expected to have broad experience in all aspects of sexual health and the management of people living with HIV. You will be expected to participate in the development of services as well as delivery of high-quality GU Medicine, complex contraception and HIV services, working with consultant colleagues and within multi-disciplinary teams. You will be encouraged to contribute to audit, research, training and undergraduate/post-graduate teaching programmes. You will be expected to be flexible and to provide medical advice and support to nurse delivered clinics. There is a 1:3 on call rota for HIV/GU related emergencies and needle stick injuries.

You will have consultant responsibility for upholding quality and clinical standards within the service, and for development of the service in conjunction with the existing consultant staff.

You will be required to participate in the delivery of an effective Genito-urinary, complex contraception and HIV Medicine service, in order to meet national targets

The role will require participation with the other consultants in delivery of in-patient care for HIV positive patients. The role requires supervision of doctors in training, non-consultant grade doctors and nursing staff and to provide advice and supervision for treatment/therapy provided by other members of the clinical team.

You will work closely with University of Southampton Hospital and other acute Trusts in the Hampshire and IOW area to deliver care for HIV positive pregnant women and patients co-infected with Hepatitis.
