Job responsibilities
Main duties and responsibilities-
*To provide expert evidence-based assessment and treatment to children, young people and their families who have mental health problems.
*To be responsible for delivering, and supervising, highly specialist assessment and intervention in a way that is integrated with the work of other disciplines within the team.
*To provide evidence based individual and group therapy to meet the needs of children, young people and their families who have been accepted into the service.
*To assess and formulate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models in the best interest of the child / young person.
*To regularly review and monitor outcome of assessment and effects of treatment in line with goal-based outcomes, evidencing such outcomes for both young people and the service as a whole.
*To communicate highly sensitive and complex information to children, young people and their families as well as to the professional network supporting them.
*To provide expert and highly specialist advice, guidance and consultation on the mental health needs of children and young people to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
*To attend Core Group meetings and Team Around the Child meetings and other relevant meetings as required.
*To undertake risk assessments and risk management for individual children/young people and families and to provide expert advice to other professions on aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
*To deliver regular specialist clinical professional supervision to other team members.
*To lead on the development of care pathways and other treatment protocols and work with other Clinical Leads in the 0-19 service to ensure these are consistent and integrated across localities.
*To contribute to the development and delivery of the learning and development plan for the service. Taking responsibility for the delivery of training relevant to expertise.
*To promote and role model participation and co-production with children, young people and families in all aspects of service delivery and development.
*Take part in regular professional appraisal identifying areas for continuing professional development.
*To operate within the guidance and Code of Ethics of the relevant professional body
*To act in accordance with legal requirements contained within the Mental Health Act 1983, the Children's Act 1994 and other legislation
*To have knowledge of and act in accordance with Southampton City Safeguarding Children's Board.
Communication-
*To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, highly complex and sensitive information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary interventions.
*To communicate effectively through written notes and reports and verbal communication with all relevant personnel involved in the YP's care.
*To possess IT skills in order to effectively communicate in writing with colleagues, other professionals and families in accordance with trust policies e.g., writing of comprehensive report
*To liaise and joint work with colleagues, other professionals and agencies as required in relation to both clinical work and the wider agenda of working in partnership within a multi-agency framework.
*To participate in team clinical meetings in order to share expertise, promote good practice and the safety of clients.
*To participate in referrals meeting as required. Making clinical decisions as part of this group regarding the appropriateness of new referrals in line with referral criteria. Assessing the level of clinical need for referrals accepted and communicating outcomes to referrers.
Knowledge and training -
*To take a lead in the identification and completion of relevant audits in service to monitor and improve quality.
*To take a lead in identifying, developing, implementing and undertaking research activity in service.
*To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the team's operational policies and services and participate in the development of high quality, responsive and accessible services.
*To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in both individual work and across service treatment protocols and care pathways.
*To participate in service developments including service user feedback.
*Undertake clinical work, training and personal development to maintain and develop clinical and leadership skills.
*Work at all times within Professional Code of Practice for your relevant professional body. Responsibility for maintaining professional knowledge and competency in all areas of work to maintain professional qualifications.
*Participate in appraisal and objective setting process and identify and meet PDP needs.
*Seek and receive regular planned management and clinical supervision.
*To complete mandatory training as required in Solent NHS Trust.
Management and Leadership-
*To lead in working with the 0-19 Senior Leadership Team and other colleagues to ensure the highest quality of care is delivered within the service and this is measurable.
*To maintain up to date and relevant knowledge of national policy to influence service development and delivery as a result.
*To lead in developing specialist treatment protocols related to the mental health presentation of children and young people in accordance with NICE guidelines and best available evidence. Ensuring these are focused on an early intervention level and linked into overall CAMH pathways in the City.
*To lead in taking action to ensure that the service maintains a high quality and strongly motivated staff group with a common vision for the future and one which is in line with the service and Trusts overall vision.
*To represent the service as required in key Trust and stakeholder meetings.
*To advise on the monitoring of workload and case mix in terms of best practice, and to assist in the capacity mapping for the service.
*To lead on the provision of professional advice and support to Service Managers and other Lead Clinicians on issues of professional performance and capability.
*To work with other members of the 0-19 Senior Leadership team in the development of a high quality responsive and accessible service for children, families and carers. This may include professionally advising and managing those aspects of the service where clinical and/or organisational issues need addressing.
*To work with relevant higher education authorities to encourage the placement of students in service.
*All staff must follow Trust clinical governance requirements.
*The post holder will be an authorised signatory for the service -- taking responsibility, along with other service leads, for workforce planning with authority to sign off rosters, annual leave, expenses and/or approving orders.
