Job summary

The Asset Management Team within Estates and Facilities are the professional leads for the management of all property assets utilised by the Trust, ensuring they comply with statutory standards and are managed effectively and efficiently. We're recruiting a Sustainability Assistant Apprentice, to join our growing team!

Our Apprentice Sustainability Assistant will work within the Asset Management team dealing with daily waste disposal queries, requesting additional and ad hoc collections with waste contractors, providing additional information such as Safety Data Sheets.

You will be responsible for reviewing and analysing invoice back up, carry out waste audits and monitor waste volumes and costs and supporting theimplementation of new waste types and the promotion of waste segregation in line with waste hierarchy and carbon reduction target.

Main duties of the job

The role of Apprentice Sustainability Assistant (Waste) is to attend and participate in a series of virtual classroom sessions covering technical theory and functional skills.

Throughout the apprenticeship you will be required to build a portfolio of evidence to meet the module requirements.

The Trust will support your learning by providing a professional mentor who will allocate appropriate tasks which will enable you to gain practical experience in waste management skills.

Attend all external learning provided as part of the apprenticeship

Spend 20% of contracted hours on attending apprenticeship training and associated learning

Maintain a portfolio of evidence throughout your 2 year apprenticeship

Liaise with a number of internal and external stakeholders to ensure policy, and legislation is followed and implemented to prevent environmental harm and promote best use of resources

Encourage waste segregation, education, campaigns and promotions

Create, edit, maintain and monitor excel spreadsheets to record waste volumes, types, costs and re-use across the estate portfolio.

Support data collation for freedom of Information(FOI) requests as well as annual returns such as Estates Return Information Collection (ERIC) and Premises Assurance Model(PAM)

Work towards being the first point of contact for any waste disposal queries, requests for junk disposals and additional furniture requests. Maintaining a spreadsheet of available furniture held in storage.

Improve knowledge of Excel and database functions to assist with reporting.

Research of alternative equipment to establish business cases for implementation of compactors, balers, vacuum etc.

Create benchmarking tables to target poorly performing buildings.
